As follow-up of CIGRE C1.35 and C1.44, which have assessed the role and relevance of transmission grids expansions in the future decarbonised energy system, against expanding respectively generation and storage + demand response, here the hydrogen variable is also introduced: a new worldwide model with 22 regions has been developed, to simulate the least cost energy system (generation, storage, electrical and hydrogen transmsission) exploiting all connections that are technically feasible and economically convenient.
The tutorial describes the framework, the assumptions, the model, the simulations and their analysis, remarking the potential impact of hydrogen infrastructures and trade on the power system developments.
Sensitivities on major assumption variables, like hydrogen production cost, unit investments costs, and CO2 are also presented.
