This tutorial covers the introduction and background of Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS), and the results of survey around the world on ERS related experience for both transmission and distribution overhead lines. The tutorial touches on the typical failure modes, and then works on the planning and design aspects for readiness. Safety is a key part of the restoration work, which is explored in this tutorial. The tutorial then works on managing the overhead line failures when they arise. The decommissioning of ERS and transition to permanent restoration are then covered for wrapping up the site work. The tutorial concludes with discussions on knowledge development and sharing of case studies collected by many members in the working group.
