A message from the CIGRE Secretary General
Our much-anticipated CIGRE Centennial Session WILL PROCEED. Given continued global uncertainty around the pandemic our Session will be a flexible “hybrid” event, featuring both in-person and virtual events.
If the French government prohibits large conferences in late August, we will adapt our “hybrid” to an e-session at the same registration rate. While a cancellation fee can apply, if a registrant cannot attend either virtually or in-person in 2021 due to the pandemic, they can transfer their registration to the 2022 CIGRE Paris Session at no additional cost.
CIGRE stands for sustainable electricity for all. As humanity struggles to respond effectively to climate change our organisation has perhaps never been more important or valuable. The Session will highlight new decarbonization strategies, green hydrogen as disruptor, and other emerging E2E (end-to-end) technologies.
So, as CIGRE celebrates our Centennial, your support of the Session could not be more important.
Should I register for the 2021 Centennial Session?
Absolutely!! We offer early bird rates until May 15, 2021. Some National Committees take registrations at their websites, and if not, go to session.cigre.org/registration to register. The registration fee is applicable to in-person or virtual at the same price. We have over 800 registered to date, and our valued exhibitors remain committed and flexible.
Why is the 2021 Centennial Session registration fee the same if you elect virtual in “hybrid” mode or we need to go to e-session if the French government prohibits?
Global benchmarking of conference value shows that our full registration fee is equivalent to a two- or three-day virtual conference. We remain committed to providing value and quality for a one-week event without the need for increase whether in-person or virtual.
The virtual event does not offer the networking that an in-person event offers, but the greater share of costs for in-person events usually includes travel and lodging.
What if the French government prohibits the event?
You will retain the full value of the registration for the 2021 Centennial e-session, and we avoid a cancellation fee for the venue. If you cannot attend the 2021 Centennial e-session, you may apply the registration to the 2022 Paris Session. This is predicated solely on a French government edict. If you elect a refund, cancellation fees apply.
What if I cancel on my own initiative?
If you cannot attend the virtual event, you may elect to transfer the registration fee and companion fees to the 2022 Paris Session at no additional cost. If you request money be refunded there are charges noted in the cancellation policy.
What about other travel fees?
Other travel fees such as airfare, travel agents, and lodging depend on their cancellation policies independent of CIGRE.
What Visa or entry/exit rules apply to travel to/from France? Will CIGRE require negative COVID-19 tests or proof of vaccine at the venue? What rules, such as masks and social distancing will apply?
You must obtain Visa, entry and exit requirements via France and your country’s government authorities. For the venue, we will rely on governmental rules in France and will inform you prior to attending. We will expect safe compliance for all attendees.
How can I receive further information and updates?
Information and updates on the 2021 Centennial Session can be found here: session.cigre.org. Registrations may be found at your National Committee’s website, or at session.cigre.org/registration if your NC does not handle registrations.
